THE GAZEBO

Michael Hughes was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama. He graduated from Auburn University in 1970 with a B.S. degree in Accounting. In May of 1971 Michael joined the United States Air Force. Shortly after joining, he married his college sweetheart. In 1975, just before he separated from service, he and his wife were blessed with a baby boy.

Chuck Anderson, born to wealth and privilege in the Cradle of the Confederacy, is a border line alcoholic, who is ruled by his domineering mother, Leona, a recovering alcoholic herself. Zola Murray, also known as Zenith, is the daughter of Chuck's grandmother's maid. Although Zola's mother was black, her father was white. Zola was born with skin of ivory, silky black hair, and beautiful emerald eyes. She was Chuck's first love. The two went their separate ways. Fate brings the two together at the Gazebo, the smoking area of a mental hospital, after twenty years. Their love is rekindled, and Chuck must take a stand against his vicious, conniving mother.
