About the Author

I was born and reared in N E Texas, and am a retired senior with three children, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. I worked in Dallas three years, before moving to California to marry my hometown Navy man. We lived there for fourteen years, and when my husband retired, we moved back home to Texas. I was owner/operator of a custom made drapery shop for thirteen years. After I retired in 1991, I became interested in reading and writing. I didn’t like reading in school, because I didn’t understand Shakespeare. I have taken two online creative writing classes in the past two years. My published book evolved from an assignment in my last writing class. We were to write a two-hundred word essay from a chosen phrase. I chose ‘Waldo knew it was a bad idea when…’ After much thought, I began writing “Young Years of Paul and Waldo.” I had one essay published in the April 2004 Senior Living Newspaper. The subject was one occasion when my husband’s Navy ship came home from a six month cruise. I enjoy writing very much and have a sequel almost ready to send in. Sequel two is in the writing stages at present. To become a published author is the most exciting thing I’ve ever experienced.

Synopsis

Two kindergarteners met and remained friends for twenty years. They lost track of each other while in college, but later accidentally met while home for a visit. Paul needed a job; Waldo, an assistant manager, told him to come to Home Depot, in Cedar City, Utah, to seek employment. After being hired in the garden center, Paul stayed with Waldo until he could get his own place. The two young men enjoyed each others company, have gone on campouts, to movies and have eaten out together often. Paul met two girls, Colleen and Pamela, who shared an apartment in the complex where Paul’s apartment was. Paul introduced Pamela to Waldo and he fell helplessly in love with Pamela at first sight. Pamela was immature and didn’t understand a serious relationship. She left abruptly and Waldo was devastated. Paul was always there helping Waldo through the difficult times. Pamela came back, but was such an adolescent, she stayed only a short time and left again. Waldo finally realized she would need to mature before they could have a peaceful relationship.

Review by Sandra Allen

It was a very well written book. It kept your interest from start to ending. It was very easy reading.
Review by A.L Whitney I read the book. I thought it was a very good story. I was not sure when I got it, if I would be interested, since I didn’t normally read these type stories. But I was pleasantly surprised and found I couldn’t wait until bedtime each night to read more. It was hard to put down and I look forward to the sequel
Review The Young Years of Paul and Waldo was very well written by Ebbie Allen, she brought out the close, binding friendship between to boys that grew up together and shared many things; the love of their lives and how Paul was there for Waldo through his first love and heartbreak. It is a good book for the young love at heart.
Review by Glenda Wilson Ebbie Allen did a marvelous job on the buddy system between two boys that grew up with each other, and stayed friends through their first loves and how Paul was there for Waldo with his first heartbreak. I recommend this book for a good read. Glenda Wilson
